FreeStyle Libre Sensor

The FreeStyle Libre system (10 day) is a reader and sensor designed to facilitate easy continuous glucose monitoring. The sensor, discreetly worn on the back of the upper arm, measures glucose every minute. After a 12-hour warm-up, a simple one-second scan with the reader will reveal useful glucose insights.

Unlike traditional blood glucose monitoring, the FreeStyle Libre sensor does not involve routine finger pricks. Additionally, the FreeStyle Libre sensor is made by a process which means the sensitivity of the sensors vary very little. This means that it is calibrated at the factory - so you don’t need to calibrate it again using a finger prick.

It continuously measures the glucose concentration in your interstitial fluid, and stores 8 hours of data.

 FreeStyle Libre Sensor Features:

  • Small size and comfortable to wear: About the size of two stacked US quarters, the sensor may be scanned through clothing

  • Painless application: Painless and easy to apply. A very thin filament sits just under the skin to measure interstitial fluid

  • Accurate sensor readings: No fingerstick calibrations required, and the system has no interference with medications containing acetaminophen

  • Water resistant: Stays on the body for up to 10 days, and can be worn while swimming, showering, or exercising

  • Continuous monitoring: Measure your glucose every minute, and stores readings every 15 minutes

FreeStyle Libre Sensor Includes:

  • 1 Sensor Applicator
  • 1 Sensor Pack
  • 2 Alcohol Wipes
  • Product Insert

How to Apply the Sensor

1. Choosing the site

  • Select an area on the back of your upper arm, avoiding areas with moles, scarring, or recent insulin injections
  • Select a different site than the one most recently used

2. Preparing your skin

C. Place the sensor applicator over the prepared site and push down firmly until the sensor is in place.

D. Make sure the sensor is secure after application. Put the cap back on the sensor applicator. Discard the used sensor pack and sensor applicator per local regulations.
