Two-Piece Ostomy Pouches

With two-piece pouches, the bag and the barrier are separate devices. Why? For starters, it allows the pouch to be removed and emptied or disposed of without removing the barrier, making it easier to attach a new pouch. Plus, it’s possible to examine the stoma simply by removing the pouch and not the entire unit. Two-piece designs are generally a bit more costly than one-piece. Additionally, it's important to make sure the barrier and the pouch are fully compatible and properly connected to prevent leakage. Those who opt for a two-piece pouch will be required to replace the skin barrier regularly.
