The FreeStyle Libre 3 System is the only CGM able to maintain accuracy over 14 days without needing fingerstick calibration or sensor coding. Also, it gives your first reading just one hour after the sensor has been applied.

The FreeStyle Libre 3 sensor can be used with either the FreeStyle Libre 3 reader or the FreeStyle Libre 3 app

The sensor for the FreeStyle Libre System is small, discreet, and water-resistant. The sensor is worn on the back of the upper arm. The slim design of the FreeStyle Libre 3 sensor is thinner than two stacked pennies. The sensor can easily be scanned through clothing. FreeStyle Libre 3 FAQs

How long does a FreeStyle Libre 3 sensor last?

The FreeStyle Libre 3 sensor typically lasts for up to 14 days once it's applied and activated. During this time, it continuously monitors glucose levels, providing readings without the need for frequent replacements. After 14 days, you'll need to replace the sensor with a new one to keep monitoring your glucose effectively.

How do I apply the FreeStyle Libre 3 sensor?

Applying the FreeStyle Libre 3 sensor is straightforward but requires a few careful steps for proper use. Begin by selecting a clean, dry spot on the back of your upper arm. Clean the area with an alcohol wipe and let it dry completely. Remove the cap from the sensor applicator, making sure not to touch the adhesive pad or sensor tip. Press the sensor firmly against your skin and activate it by pressing the button or lever on the applicator to insert it under your skin. After insertion, gently remove the applicator while holding down the sensor, and press around the edges to secure the adhesive. Follow any additional activation steps as per the manufacturer's instructions and allow time for the sensor to activate before use. This process ensures that the sensor stays securely in place and provides accurate readings.

Can I swim or shower with the FreeStyle Libre 3 sensor?

Yes, you can swim and shower with the FreeStyle Libre 3 sensor. It's designed to be water-resistant, allowing you to wear it while bathing, swimming, or engaging in water activities. This feature ensures you can continue monitoring your glucose levels conveniently and without interruptions during daily activities involving water. Just be mindful that while it's resistant to water, prolonged exposure to water or excessive moisture might impact its adhesive or performance.

What is the difference between the Libre 2 and Libre 3 systems?

The FreeStyle Libre 2 and Libre 3 systems are both used for continuous glucose monitoring but differ in several aspects. The Libre 3 sensor is smaller and more discreet when worn on the back of the upper arm, offering a less noticeable profile compared to the Libre 2. The Libre 3 sensor is approximately the size of two stacked pennies compared to the two stacked quarters size of the Libre 2. In terms of functionality, the Libre 2 uses Bluetooth technology to transmit glucose data to a reader or smartphone, allowing users to set customizable alarms for high and low glucose levels. In contrast, the Libre 3 utilizes a newer technology that provides real-time glucose readings without the need to scan the sensor. While Libre 2 offers alerts for glucose levels, Libre 3 focuses on continuous monitoring through on-demand access to glucose readings via a compatible reader or smartphone. Both systems feature a built-in battery that lasts for the duration of wear, typically up to 14 days for Libre 3, eliminating the need for charging or battery replacements during use. Choosing between Libre 2 and Libre 3 often depends on individual preferences for real-time readings versus scan-based monitoring with alerts, as well as considerations of size and convenience.

Can you buy the freestyle Libre 3 sensor over the counter?

Yes, you can purchase the FreeStyle Libre 3 sensor over the counter without a prescription at Diabetic Warehouse. We offer both single sensors and packs of two.

Can the FreeStyle Libre go through a metal detector?

Yes, you can wear the FreeStyle Libre sensor when going through a metal detector, such as those found at airports or security checkpoints. The sensor itself does not contain any metal components that would trigger the detector. It's designed to be safe and non-interfering with such security systems, allowing individuals to pass through metal detectors without any issues. This feature ensures convenience for users who need to monitor their glucose levels continuously while traveling or in environments where metal detectors are present. It should not be exposed to full-body scanners like x-ray or millimeter radio-wave, so you may need to request an alternative screening.

Can you scan the Freestyle Libre sensor through clothes?

Yes, you can scan the FreeStyle Libre sensor through clothes. The sensor works by using near-field communication (NFC) technology. It can communicate with a compatible reader or smartphone through thin layers of clothing as long as it's within 1 cm to 4 cm of the sensor. This feature allows for convenient and discreet glucose monitoring without exposing the sensor or removing clothing. Place the reader or smartphone close to the sensor location (typically on the back of the upper arm) and scan through the clothing to obtain glucose readings.

How much does Libre 3 cost per month?

The cost of using the FreeStyle Libre 3 system can vary depending on where you purchase it and how frequently you need to replace the sensors. At Diabetic Warehouse, for instance, a single FreeStyle Libre 3 sensor costs $130 and typically lasts for 14 days. To cover a month of continuous monitoring, you would need approximately two sensors, totaling $260. Alternatively, purchasing a two-pack of sensors for $235 provides a slight discount compared to buying them individually. There's also a Starter Pack option available for $360, which includes two sensors and one reader, covering your monitoring needs for a month. These prices reflect the convenience and effectiveness of continuous glucose monitoring offered by the FreeStyle Libre 3 system, allowing users to manage their diabetes with flexibility and cost efficiency suited to their individual needs.

FreeStyle Libre 3 vs. Dexcom G7 Comparison

Choosing between the FreeStyle Libre 3 and Dexcom G7 depends on what features are most important to you. The FreeStyle Libre 3 is known for its small size and convenience; it uses a sensor on the back of your arm and provides glucose readings that you can access without scanning, making it discreet. On the other hand, the Dexcom G7 offers continuous glucose readings sent to your smartphone every 5 minutes, which some people prefer for its real-time updates. It also includes customizable alerts for high and low glucose levels, which can be helpful for immediate awareness. Both systems are highly advanced and beneficial for managing diabetes, so the best choice often comes down to personal preference regarding sensor placement, how you prefer to receive your glucose data, and specific features that fit your lifestyle and needs.

Good Sensor but..

I absolutely do love the Libre sensor As far as the ease of being able to get your sugar level at any point without having to constantly stick your fingers. I love the way it keeps the daily and weekly charts of your sugar patterns. I like the way it has an alarm to alert you if a sugar level has gone too high or low.
But
It doesn't seem to want to stay in my arm the full 30 days. I have had three and they do not stay on the whole time , or come out of my arm. It becomes very inconvenient because you have to restart all over with a new patch and new information (Even though it does store the old information so you can get a 3-month plus view of your blood sugar history) I wish they had some kind of patch that would go over this sensor to keep it from coming out of your arm.
I have tried another company with the patch but it did not stay on well and just bubbled up. It would be nice if the Libre sensor company would make a specific patch just for that
